Our guest Ellis Zhu took a break this week to taste famous North Carolina pulled pork barbecue and learn about a local hero Hoyle Upchurch, who as a pilot for the famed Flying Tigers defended Ellis’ forefathers in China from the Japanese in WWII.

  1. Reitz North America Project Manager Ben Misegades with Ellis Zhu in front of a replica of a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, the primary fighter aircraft of the Flying Tigers. The replica is at the Gilliam-McConnell airfield in Carthage, North Carolina, not far from Reitz North America’s Office in Aberdeen.

  3. Ellis and Ben enjoy a barbecue lunch at the Pik ‘n Pig restaurant located at the Gilliam-McConnell airfield.
